Viral! Finance Minister’s Son Yudo Sadewa Criticizes ‘Religious Intoxication’ and Corruption in Indonesia
Yudo Sadewa, the son of Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, has sparked public debate after posting a controversial video on TikTok addressing what he called Indonesia’s phenomenon of “religious intoxication.”
“Indonesians are drunk on religion yet not truly religious,” Yudo stated in the video that went viral on Sunday (November 2, 2025). He argued that many people in Indonesia tend to associate every aspect of life with religion without understanding its scientific or logical essence.
Yudo further criticized inconsistent religious practices, linking them to the prevalence of corruption and moral decay in the country.
“You Muslims probably only pray on Fridays, and you Christians—when was the last time you went to church? That’s why there’s so much corruption and immorality,” he remarked.
His comments immediately ignited heated discussions online. Some netizens praised Yudo’s boldness in calling out social hypocrisy, while others accused him of overstepping personal religious boundaries and disrespecting faith-related sensitivities.
