2 Million Indonesians Go for Treatment Abroad, Losing IDR 90 Trillion in Foreign Exchange

Holiday Ayo - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said that around 2 million Indonesians like to seek treatment abroad.

This resulted in a loss of foreign exchange of around IDR 90 trillion. This was conveyed by Erick Thohir when reviewing the Sanur special economic zone (KEK).

Via the Instagram account @erickthohir, Erick said that the Sanur SEZ is focused on the health sector.

Erick believes that Bali tourism needs to be supported by higher health standards. This is because Bali is a tourist city that often attracts prominent international figures.

"Because we know that there are lots of international stars, including film stars, football stars, not to mention many tourists who need international standard health facilities. Many of the approximately 2 million Indonesians seek treatment abroad and we have the potential to lose Rp. 90 trillion. So why don't we intervene?" said Erick, Friday (22/11).

He also intends to invite President Prabowo Subianto around March after the construction of the hospital in the area is completed. For hotels, Erick said they were operating optimally.

"The hotel itself is already operating optimally. Sanur is a tourist area that was built by President Soekarno. We can see that it used to be a park, but now it is a hotel lobby. This is also historic," explained Erick.

He explained that his party was trying to build tourism in Bali. Not only in Ubud, Nusa Dua and Kuta, he is trying to make Sanur attract tourists, both domestic and foreign.

"We are trying to rebuild state-owned tourism in Bali. Not only Ubud, Nusa Dua, Kuta, but Sanur, whose origins were once forgotten. So that's why we are rebuilding this special economic area to try again to attract tourists to Sanur," added Erick.
