ASDP Indonesia Ferry Implements Green Principles in the Operation of Ports

Holiday Ayo - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is committed to implementing sustainable environmentally friendly standards in all operations at ports, ships, as well as from a management standpoint.

This green principle is in order to encourage the achievement of the Net Zero Emission target in 2060 or sooner, as well as the Paris Agreement agenda to reduce carbon emissions by up to 29% by 2030.

"As a transportation company, of course ASDP has a close relationship with carbon emissions, so ASDP is committed to implementing environmentally sound business principles in various fields, starting from ports, ferries, to the management side," said Corporate Secretary of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Shelvy Arifin as reported by PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Corporate Secretary from finance.detik.com, Tuesday (7/2).

Furthermore, Shelvy described efforts to realize green principles in ports (green port). He said that through its subsidiary PT Indonesia Ferry Property (IFPRO), ASDP is developing a solar power plant (PLTS) at the Sosoro Executive Terminal of Merak Port, Banten, and the Anjung Agung Executive Terminal of Bakauheni Port, Lampung.

The solar panel installation is in collaboration with PT Surya Energi Indotama (SEI), a subsidiary of PT Len Industri (Persero), and uses the PT PLN (Persero) electricity network as a form of inter-BUMN synergy and collaboration.

According to him, the presence of PLTS has the potential to save electricity consumption in the two main ports, even up to 15%.

"Thus, apart from benefiting from financial savings, ASDP also has a positive impact on the environment in the form of reduced emissions because some of the electricity consumption switches to new and renewable energy, namely PLTS," said Shelvy.

Apart from PLTS, he said, his party also uses an independent electric platform (ALMA) at the port. This step is to encourage the efficiency of using fuel and the use of clean energy as an energy source for ships when they dock at the port.

"A number of other green port steps are planting trees, using environmentally friendly air conditioners, using biodiesel fuel with a mixture of vegetable oil as much as 30 percent (B30), conducting regular tests of seawater pollution levels around the port, applying flow meters in artesian wells, building sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) technology, and integrated and integrated management of solid waste or garbage and B3," he explained.

Furthermore, ASDP also implements environmentally friendly and sustainable ferry crossing operations or green shipping. Namely by ensuring the entire fleet of ships undergo routine maintenance on a regular and timely basis to reduce exhaust emissions not to exceed the threshold.
