Access to Dozens of Regions Cut Off! SAR Teams Fully Deployed, Prabowo Orders Rapid Response!

Holiday Ayo - President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the acceleration of emergency response efforts for the massive floods affecting Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The directive was conveyed by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno during the Ministerial Coordination Meeting on Flood and Landslide Response at the BNPB Building, East Jakarta, Thursday (27/11/2025).

Pratikno emphasized that the President demanded all ministries and institutions to act swiftly, seriously, and in a coordinated manner during the emergency response phase, while simultaneously preparing for infrastructure recovery to ensure that public activities can resume as soon as possible.

Deputy for Meteorology at BMKG, Guswanto, explained that the floods and landslides across Sumatra were triggered by Tropical Cyclone Senyar since November 21, causing extreme rainfall and strong winds in the three provinces. Although the cyclone has weakened, BMKG continues to warn of the potential for high-intensity rain due to the Mesoscale Convective Complex (MCC) phenomenon, particularly in Mandailing Natal and West Sumatra.

The disaster has resulted in casualties and severe infrastructure damage, including collapsed bridges, landslide-blocked roads, and isolated land access.

Head of Basarnas, Air Marshal TNI Mohammad Syafii, reported that eight ongoing search and rescue operations are being conducted across the three affected provinces. All available SAR resources have been deployed, including additional personnel from other SAR offices.

Victim reporting is being carried out gradually, as several access routes remain disconnected. The government is also preparing to distribute emergency assistance by air to areas that remain unreachable.

Pratikno added that all affected regions have declared a disaster emergency status, allowing the central government to optimize support and utilize the Ready-to-Use Fund (DSP). He stressed that the government is also preparing long-term mitigation measures through forest area management, land-use regulation, and optimization of retention reservoirs and river flows.
