Asian Giants Samsung & Sojitz Reportedly Entering the Nusantara Capital City

Holiday Ayo - The Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) as well as Acting Officer (Plt) for the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) revealed that Sojitz Corporation is interested in investing its shares in IKN, East Kalimantan (Kaltim).

The plan is that they will build a Superblock area in the new capital city. Sojitz is a Japanese manufacturing company operating in the automotive, aerospace, infrastructure, energy, mining, recycling, chemical, food and retail sectors.

“Sojitz wants to invest. He wants property, meaning there is a hotel, there is housing, there is commercial. (Superblock?) He said yes," said Basuki when met at the office, Jakarta, Friday (9/8).

Second, Samsung Group will invest under the Government and Business Entity Cooperation (KPBU) scheme in the property sector.

The South Korean company will also build the Superblock area, like other foreign investors. Even so, Basuki has not announced the nominal value of his investment.

“Samsung wants PPP in the property sector. (Superblock too?) maybe yes," said Basuki.

Previously, Basuki said that overall the IKN Authority had at least 472 Letters of Intent (LoI) or statements of interest in investing in IKN.

Of these, around 220 investors are eligible. Then it was further curated into 60 investors who were included in the priority list.

“There were 472 LoIs in the past. Well, from there the 212 are not feasible because contractors, consultants, suppliers, so they are not investors. So I asked for those to be answered so they don't have to wait. The remaining 220 are investors. From that point on, We've just claimed (groundbreaking) 45 investors. So where are the others? Well, I found out there are 60 that are already in progress," said Basuki when met at the office, Jakarta, Friday (9/8).
