Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM), Muhaimin Iskandar — widely known as Cak Imin — has spoken out regarding the series of disasters currently striking Sumatra.

In his official response, Cak Imin stated that he has sent formal letters to Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia.

During his speech, Cak Imin also highlighted the urgency of what he referred to as a “taubat nasuha”, or sincere repentance, amid the recurring disasters.

“In NU terminology, it’s called taubatan nasuha,” he added.

He further emphasized that the disasters occurring should not be viewed merely as warnings, but as consequences of human negligence.

Cak Imin concluded his statement by expressing prayers and hopes for all communities affected by the disaster.
