Becoming a Volunteer in Gaza, Female Nurse Arrested by French Authorities
Holiday Ayo - France on Thursday (5/9) arrested and released a female nurse, Imane Maarifi, who spent 15 days as a medical volunteer in the Gaza Strip.
Middle East Monitor (MEMO) reported that Imane Maarifi was arrested by French authorities after attending a pro-Palestinian demonstration to share his testimony regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Lawyer Rafik Chekkat, founder of the Islamophobia platform, said that Maarifi was arrested on Thursday (5/9) morning at his home.
He angrily criticized the government for arresting Maarifi at a time when French soldiers fighting to help Israel in Gaza were 'enjoying total impunity'.
Maarifi was a volunteer medic for 15 days at the European hospital in Khan Younis. After returning to France, he took part in demonstrations supporting the Palestinian cause while sharing his experiences helping Gaza residents.
Maarifi has been vocal in demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He also called for a boycott of products from companies that collaborate with or support Israel.

Maarifi's arrest itself did not last long. Member of parliament from the La France Insoumise (LFI) Party Thomas Portes said Maarifi had now been released.
"Searching the house in the presence of the family is a clear attempt to intimidate voices supporting the Palestinian people and demanding an immediate ceasefire," he wrote in X.
