Holiday Ayo - Food might not be the first thing you think about when you visit Australia. But during your visit, don't miss the opportunity to taste  unique and delicious Australian specialties . Here are 5 typical foods that you must try while in Australia.

1. Barramundi

Barramundi is a white sea fish with a soft and savory taste. This food is one of the most popular fish dishes in Australia. Usually, this fish is cooked by steaming, baking, grilling or frying. 

The best places to sample Barramundi in Australia are in Western Australia, Queensland and in northern Australia. Visit coastal cities in Australia and you will easily find Barramundi dishes there.

2. Pavlova

Pavlova is a beautiful and very tasty white dessert. This meringue based cake  or foam cake is usually decorated with  white whipped cream topped with various pieces of fresh fruit. The outside of the Pavlova cake is crunchy when bitten, but soft on the inside.

This cake is made with a lot of patience because you have to beat the egg whites while adding the sugar little by little until the dough is fluffy. If you want to try this cake, just stop by the many cafes available in Australia.

3. Lamington

Lamingtons are small delicious desserts. This sweet cake is made of small butter cookies or  sponge cakes covered with a small amount of jam and chocolate and then sprinkled with grated coconut. It has a very sweet taste and is usually enjoyed with warm drinks such as tea or coffee.

The cake takes its name from  Lord and  Lady Lamington , the first governors of Queensland who served from 1896 to 1901. While it is not known who originally made it, the recipe was first published in a magazine in the 1900s. Then this cake became very popular and is known as a typical Australian cake until now.

4. Anzac Biscuits

The next Australian specialty  is the most popular in the country, namely Anzac Biscuits. This cake was made as a memorial to honor the military forces of Australia and New Zealand. 

Typically, Anzac Biscuits are eaten on  ANZAC Day and  Remembrance Day  as a tribute to military troops. However, they can also be easily found in cake shops across Australia all year round.

This cake is made of ground oats, grated coconut, sugar, butter, molasses, flour, and  baking soda . This cake is flat round like a biscuit in general and has a very sweet taste. 

5. Meat Pie

Meat pie  is a pie filled with meat and thick broth which is very popular among Australians. Apart from containing meat and broth, other ingredients are also added such as mushrooms, onions, melted cheese, or other additional seasonings. Generally, they are only the size of a hand so they are small enough to eat right away.

This food has been around for centuries and was only known in Australia in the early 19th century. It's very easy to make, because you only need to fill the pastry shell with meat filling, then cook it in the oven.
