Beware! Common Health Issues That May Arise During Ramadan Fasting

Holiday Ayo - During the holy month of Ramadan, the body undergoes significant changes due to alterations in eating and sleeping patterns. If not managed properly, fasting can lead to various health issues. Here are some common conditions that may occur during Ramadan:

1. Dehydration

A lack of fluid intake throughout the day can lead to dehydration, causing symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, and dry skin.

2. Acid Reflux (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease/GERD)

An increase in stomach acid, especially after breaking the fast with heavy or spicy foods, may trigger symptoms like heartburn and a burning sensation in the chest.

3. Gastritis

Fasting can worsen gastritis symptoms, leading to bloating, abdominal pain, and nausea, particularly in individuals with existing digestive issues.

4. Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar)

A drop in blood sugar levels, particularly in diabetics, may result in dizziness, weakness, trembling, and even fainting.

5. Constipation

A lack of fiber and fluid intake during fasting hours can slow bowel movements, leading to constipation.

6. Fatigue

Changes in sleep patterns due to night prayers (Taraweeh) and altered eating schedules can cause the body to feel weak and less energetic.

7. Headaches or Migraines

Reduced food intake, dehydration, and irregular sleep may trigger headaches or migraines, particularly in those prone to such conditions.
