Bitcoin Price Drops Because Donald Trump Praises Crypto
Holiday Ayo - Bitcoin prices fell when US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump spoke at the annual Bitcoin Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, Saturday (27/7) local time.
At the conference for digital currency fans, Trump claimed that the price of bitcoin would soon reach its peak. He also promised to make the US a leading country in crypto assets.
As reported by Reuters, Sunday (28/7), Trump gave a speech at the Bitcoin 2024 conference as part of the campaign.
He and the Republican Party want to attract crypto holders to support them ahead of the November 5 general election.
Trump has portrayed himself as a crypto supporter in contrast to the administration of Joe Biden and other Democrats.
Trump promised that if elected, he would fire the current Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Gary Gensler.
Quoting NBC News, Gensler is considered an opponent of crypto fans because of his institution's ruling on digital tokens and lawsuits against bitcoin exchanges.
“I will appoint an SEC chairman who will build the future, not hinder the future," Trump said.
Trump's support for crypto comes amid major support from bitcoin supporters, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
Trump's remarks further strengthen his growing alliance with other right-leaning figures in the tech world.
Trump himself put forward a proposal to create a national bitcoin reserve. According to him, this will function as a permanent national asset.
Although, he did not provide many details regarding the national bitcoin reserve scheme. Even though Trump promised to advance the crypto market in the US.
The price of bitcoin actually closed down 0.96 percent to $66,814 per chip on the same day. However, on Sunday (28/7) morning the price of the crypto with the largest market capitalization strengthened again.
Quoting Coinmarketcap, the price of bitcoin rose 0.55 percent in the last 24 hours to US$68,060 per chip. Meanwhile, the price of ethereum rose 0.06 percent to US$3,248 per chip compared to the previous day. Meanwhile, the price of Tether weakened 0.06 percent to US$0.9.
