Blessings Amid Disaster — Couple Finds Hajj Savings Beneath Flood Debris
A video uploaded on TikTok has stirred emotional reactions across social media. In the footage shared by user @mega.mustika283, a married couple — victims of the recent flood — can be seen restoring their home that was devastated by the raging water. Amid the process of sorting through debris and mud that filled every corner of the building, the wife discovered a savings container holding the funds they had set aside for their future Hajj pilgrimage.
Despite the container and the room being covered in mud, the savings remained intact. With a trembling voice and visible gratitude, the wife is seen washing the money one bill at a time. “Alhamdulillah, we found it,” read the caption on the video.
Originally intended to finance their pilgrimage to Mecca, the savings will now be used to purchase basic necessities such as rice, cooking oil, and sugar to help the family survive and start rebuilding their lives after the disaster.
The flash floods and widespread inundation that struck Aceh — including the Langkahan subdistrict — in recent weeks have caused severe devastation. Thousands of homes have been damaged, numerous villages submerged, and key logistics routes and evacuation access cut off.
According to provisional data released by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the death toll continues to rise. The latest report states that 126 people have died, dozens remain missing, and hundreds of homes and public facilities have suffered extensive damage.
In Langkahan, many residents are currently staying in temporary evacuation shelters while awaiting the arrival of logistical support, food supplies, and medical assistance.
