Different Functions, This is the Meaning of the Names Google and TikTok
Holiday Ayo - Google and TikTok are two technologies that have many users. However, not many people know what the names Google and TikTok mean.
Functionally it is different. Google is present as an information search engine on the internet, while TikTok is a short video-based social media.
Meaning of the Name Google Google by Sergey Brin and Larry Page in 1998, when they were still PhD students at Stanford University, California, United States.
Some people have theorized wrong. Some call Google the abbreviation for Global Organization of Oriented Group Language of Earth. However, Google is actually not an abbreviation but a play on the word Googol.
For those who don't know, it's an arithmetic lexicon for 10 raised to the power of 100 or 1 with 100 trailing zeros.
The term was coined in 1920 by Milton Sirotta, the 9-year-old nephew of mathematician Edward Kasner. Milton frequently referred to the number in his book Mathematics and the Imagination published in 1940.
The boy's reasoning was that such a ridiculous number deserved an equally ridiculous name. When Larry Page and his friends were brainstorming about names for the company, someone suggested calling it Googol.
Then, Larry asked his friend if the domain was available. However, the friend apparently misspelled the word Google, which Page thought was better and Google Inc was born.
In other words, one of the most powerful search engines in the world was named because of a typo in the search bar.
Previously, they had planned to name the search engine Backrub, because the program uses backlinks to search.
“Fellow PHD student Sean Anderson and Larry were in their office, using a whiteboard, trying to think of a good name, something to do with indexing large amounts of data. Sean verbally suggested the word 'googolplex,' and Larry verbally responded with the short form, googol," said Stanford computer scientist David Koller.
Meaning of TikTok Names TikTok is a social networking application and platform that allows users to create, edit, and share short video clips.
This application was launched in China in 2016 under the name Douyin by technology company ByteDance. It is not known why ByteDance nicknamed its platform TikTok for the global market.
The choice of name is likely based on a commonly used branding strategy, namely creating a name that is easy to remember and attracts attention.
Short and rhythmic names like TikTok are very effective in spreading widely. And it is proven that its name immediately skyrocketed, overtaking a number of social media that have existed for a long time and even its competitors are starting to follow its features.
