Don't Do It! These Are 6 Bad Passenger Etiquettes on Airplanes

Holiday Ayo - Air travel remains one of the safest and most popular modes of transportation.
With the increasing frequency of flights worldwide, it is important to understand the etiquette that must be followed for the sake of mutual comfort.
An etiquette consultant and Head of Mannersmith, Jodi RR Smith even said that maintaining this etiquette is important to respect others, because airplanes are narrow, closed spaces so that any small action may make others uncomfortable.
Here are 6 bad behaviors that are important for you to avoid when on a plane.
1. Reclining the Seat Randomly
Airplane seats are indeed designed flexibly so that they can be adjusted to a reclining or upright position according to the passenger's wishes. Generally, passengers who want to sleep will recline their seats.
Although reclining your seat is your right as an airplane passenger, it is important to pay attention to the passengers behind you first.
Smith said that reclining the seat can disturb the rear passengers. This has the potential to cause their food or drinks to spill.
For that, he reminded that if the flight is less than 2 hours, position the seat to remain upright.
"While you want to be comfortable, it's also important to be polite and self-aware," Smith said.
2. Talking Loudly or Not Using Headphones
One of the most annoying things for anyone, whether on a plane or anywhere else, is a noisy situation.
On a plane, noisy sounds from passengers talking loudly, snoring, to playing music without headphones or earphones are annoying things for other passengers and can be annoying.
One Travel Blogger, Sophia Warren suggests, "Try using noise-canceling headphones to help drown out the noise of noisy passengers" if you are disturbed.
Smith also said that passengers should not be selfish and disturb the comfort of other passengers by humming, singing or chatting, and laughing during the flight.
3. Bringing Strong-Smelling Food into the Aircraft Cabin
Most passengers like to enjoy their flights while enjoying snacks. However, make sure the food you bring into the aircraft cabin does not produce aromas that can disturb other passengers.
Smith recommends passengers eat sandwiches, salads, or pasta or other types of food that do not produce certain aromas.
Not only food, make sure your body odor and perfume or fragrance that you use are not overpowering. Smith suggests not using fragrances before boarding the plane.
4. Leaning on Other Passengers' Shoulders
In addition to being annoying, leaning or even sleeping on the shoulders of the passenger next to you is considered impolite because it crosses the line of privacy.
To overcome this, Sophia Warren suggests that you position your feet and hands so that they do not touch or rest on the passenger next to you.
5. Not Being Wise in Using the Toilet
Waiting in line for the toilet is the worst thing. So, before you cause chaos throughout the plane, you need to keep yourself from using the toilet for too long.
Please note that the toilet is not a place to make up, let alone stay in it for a long time because you are playing with your cellphone.
Sophia suggests that passengers avoid airplane toilets as much as possible if it is not an emergency and use the toilet at the airport before boarding the plane.
6. Master the Armrest on the Seat for Yourself
Often this item is fought over on the plane and people are actually confused about who the armrest actually belongs to.
Smith said that the etiquette of using armrests in flights is: for rows with two seats, the middle armrest can be shared. Then, the row of armrests in rows of three seats belongs to the passenger in the middle.
Window passengers have the advantage of being able to see the view from the window clearly, and passengers sitting in the aisle have aisle space.
