Failing to overcome floods, Kim Jong Un shoots dead 30 North Korean officials

Holiday Ayo - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reportedly sentenced a number of regional officials to death after major floods hit the country.

According to a report by North Korean television station TV Chosun, as reported by the Straits Times, around 20 to 30 government officials in flood-hit areas were executed by shooting this August.

The news of the execution in North Korea was reported by South Korea's National Intelligence Agency, which is monitoring the situation after receiving intelligence information about the news.

At the end of July, at a meeting, Kim Jong Un stated that he would severely punish officials who neglected their duties. Kim also emphasized that officials must be held responsible for the loss of life.

Last July, heavy rain damaged around 4,100 residents' houses, flooded roads and railway tracks, and damaged around 3,000 hectares of agricultural land in the city of Sinuiju.

Local media said losses due to flooding were more extensive in the northern region of Jagang Province, which borders China.

Several bodies were also found during the land clearing process, after the surface began to recede after the flood.

The large flood is thought to have killed up to several thousand people in the area worst hit by the flood, namely Jagang Province.

When the flood occurred, Kim Jong Un is said to have immediately stepped in to lead rescue operations using 10 helicopters and military lifeboats.

The South Korean meteorological agency said this was the highest temperature ever recorded in North Korea in the last 29 years.
