Greenpeace UK Pours Red Dye at US Embassy in Protest Against Arms Sales to Israel

Holiday Ayo -

Greenpeace UK staged a dramatic protest on Thursday, April 10, 2025, by pouring 300 liters of red dye resembling blood into the fountain outside the United States Embassy in London. The action was carried out to denounce the US government’s continued arms supply to Israel amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

In a video shared on Greenpeace International’s official Instagram account, several activists can be seen carrying boxes labeled “Stop Aiming Israel,” which contained the red dye. They then poured it into the fountain’s circulation system, turning the water deep red. The act was meant to symbolize the bloodshed and suffering caused by violence in Gaza.

Greenpeace explicitly accused the United States of being complicit in what it described as an ongoing genocide in Gaza. In its official statement, the organization claimed that since January 2025, the US has approved nearly $12 billion in military sales to Israel, accounting for two-thirds of Israel’s total arms imports.

The organization also criticized US President Donald Trump for continuing to support arms shipments despite the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Greenpeace called on the US government to immediately halt military support and to take concrete steps toward enforcing an effective and lasting ceasefire.

Greenpeace did not spare the UK government from criticism either. In a post on @greenpeaceid, Greenpeace Indonesia revealed that the UK has exported nearly £500 million worth of military equipment to Israel since 2015. Although the UK government suspended 30 out of 350 arms export licenses in September last year, critical components such as parts for F-35 fighter jets continued to be shipped, drawing backlash from human rights groups.

The organization argued that the UK’s actions contradict those of other Western countries—such as Spain, Canada, Belgium, and the Netherlands—which have suspended all arms sales to Israel since the escalation of the conflict in Gaza.

Greenpeace urged UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to immediately halt all arms exports to Israel as a tangible step toward upholding human rights and international humanitarian law.

In closing, Greenpeace emphasized that the red dye used in the protest was environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and biodegradable.
