Highest in History, Indonesian Sugar Production Targeted at 2.7 Million Tons in 2025

Holiday Ayo - Holding Perkebunan Nusantara PTPN III (Persero) through its subsidiary, PT Sinergi Gula Nusantara (SGN), has succeeded in reclaiming its position as the largest sugar producer in Indonesia.
As a new breakthrough, Main Director of PTPN III Holding Mohammad Abdul Gani targets sugar production to reach 2.7 million tons in 2025.
This figure is claimed to be the highest in 95 years or since 1930. Abdul Gani said President Prabowo Subianto had ordered that Indonesia can achieve sugar self-sufficiency by 2027.
He believes this target will be achieved because domestic production continues to be boosted.
“Last year sugar production was 2.4 million tonnes, consumption was 2.8 million tonnes. This year it is estimated that sugar production will be 2.7 million tonnes, meaning that this year's production is only 100 thousand tonnes short of consumption. This year I can confirm that Indonesia will record the largest sugar production in its 95 year history," he said, Tuesday (11/2).
Abdul Gani said that for 95 years, the largest production had only reached 2.58 million tons.
For this reason, this year it is targeted to exceed this figure and approach domestic consumption levels.
"Since 1931 until now the highest production has been 2.58 million tons. God willing, we will pass this year, and I have conveyed to the Minister of Agriculture and the Head of the National Food Agency that this year we will celebrate the achievement of sugar production in Indonesia," he explained.
To monitor sugar production, PTPN uses digitalization so it can see how its partners with 129 thousand hectares produce sugar.
"I control 100%, what's more, using digitalization we ensure that our partners cover 12 thousand hectares, we know when they will plant, how much they will be planted, what type," he concluded.
