Investing in Indonesia, Apple Chooses Factory Construction Scheme

Holiday Ayo - Apple's investment offer is still not in agreement with the Indonesian government's desire so that its gadget products, including the iPhone 16, can be marketed in Indonesia legally.
Most recently, the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) asked Apple to invest 1 billion US dollars.
The Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, provided an update regarding the plan, where Apple finally chose a production facility investment scheme.
"Apple God willing, they will take the first scheme, namely investment in production facilities or factories in Indonesia. They have had initial discussions with the Ministry of Investment and the figure they have conveyed is that their future investment plans are around 1 billion US dollars," said Agus to journalists, Wednesday (4 /12).
The Minister of Industry admitted that he was intensively communicating with the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani regarding the best scheme for Apple's investment offer.
"I myself have spoken intensively with the Minister of Investment. We discussed the best scheme for Apple to realize the investment that Apple verbally committed to the Ministry of Investment of US$ 1 billion. So the technicalities will be discussed by the two ministries," he explained.
Regarding the location that Apple will occupy, the Ministry of Industry ensures that it will oversee the process so that the investment runs smoothly.
"We will help in such a way that Apple's investment is realized well and smoothly, according to what we will later agree on, so that Apple can also grow well in Indonesia by providing production facilities or factories," said Agus.
Regarding how the investment of 1 billion US dollars will be divided into how many stages, the Ministry of Industry is currently conducting further discussions.
"We are discussing what the terms of 1 billion US dollars will be. Of course, as of today, in the eyes of the government, Apple is still using the third scheme, namely innovation, there is no first scheme or hardware yet," said Agus.
At least the initial discussions conveyed by Apple to the Ministry of Investment already exist, so it is a good step for Apple to conduct business more quickly in Indonesia.
"Otherwise we wouldn't have issued a distribution permit (iPhone 16)," he said.
