Java Island is still the main travel destination for Indonesian tourists
Holiday Ayo - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that Java Island will still be the main travel destination for Indonesian domestic tourists (wisnus) in July 2024.
As reported by Antara, BPS recorded that the number of trips made by foreign tourists during the January-July 2024 period was 598.72 million trips.
This number shows better conditions compared to the same period last year.
“This number has exceeded foreign tourists traveling in the same period in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic occurred," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Pudji Ismartini.
Meanwhile, the total number of foreign tourist visits to the island of Java in July 2024 reached 52.34 million trips, or around 67.75 percent of the total number of foreign tourist trips in Indonesia.
In this number, East Java is a favorite tourist destination with 17.65 million trips. Followed by West Java with 12.18 million trips, and Central Java with 10.26 million trips.
This trend continues until the January-July 2024 period, where 69.63 percent of total domestic tourist trips are destined for Java.
East Java is still consistently the province with the highest number of visits, contributing 22.66 percent of the total trips of all Indonesian tourists.
Other provinces that will also be the highest tourist destinations in July 2024 are Jakarta, Banten, North Sumatra, South Sulawesi, Yogyakarta, West Sumatra and Bali.
Meanwhile, BPS also recorded growth in foreign tourist travel in July 2024. As a result, South Papua was in first position with growth of 225.58 percent.
There are also several other provinces that show high annual growth, such as the Riau Islands (155.98 percent), West Papua (120.53 percent), Central Sulawesi (94.60 percent), and East Nusa Tenggara (88.44 percent).
Meanwhile, cumulatively, Maluku is the province with the highest growth in the number of foreign tourists traveling in January-July 2024, namely 128.96 percent.
