The Malioboro area in Yogyakarta has been overwhelmed by tourists, creating scenes that resemble a sea of people. The situation was captured in a viral video circulating on social media, showing extreme congestion of pedestrians along the popular tourist corridor.

In a video uploaded by TikTok account @trissadhea, the person recording can be heard expressing frustration over the excessive crowding in Malioboro during the holiday period.

“This is for all of you who are planning to go to Jogja—don’t bother coming here. What’s the point? There are still many other cities,” the voice said, as quoted on Sunday (December 21, 2025).

The surge in visitors is known to coincide with the school holidays and the 2025 Christmas–New Year break. Malioboro remains a prime destination due to its easy transportation access. Several netizens also noted that the overcrowding was influenced by ongoing events in the area, as well as the high influx of tourists from various regions.
