Once Criticized, Captain America: Brave New World Defies Expectations and Dominates the Box Office!

Holiday Ayo - Captain America: Brave New World has taken the North American box office by storm since its release last week. The latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) grossed an impressive $88.5 million in its opening weekend, equivalent to approximately IDR 1.4 trillion (based on an exchange rate of $1 = IDR 16,167).

This figure significantly outperformed Paddington in Peru, which secured the second spot with $13 million. Rounding out the top five domestic box office rankings were Heart Eyes with $10 million, Dog Man with $9.7 million, and Ne Zha 2, which earned $7.2 million.

According to Variety, Brave New World faced little competition at the box office. Projections indicate that the film is expected to generate an additional $11.5 million, bringing its total domestic earnings to an estimated $100 million. This milestone positions Brave New World as the fourth-highest-grossing film ever released during Presidents' Day weekend.

This success is particularly noteworthy given the initial wave of criticism the film received from both fans and critics. Despite the skepticism, Captain America: Brave New World has proven its appeal, drawing audiences to theaters and achieving significant commercial success.

As part of Phase Five in the Multiverse Saga, the film marks the fourth entry in the Captain America franchise. It also serves as Anthony Mackie’s debut as the titular character, portraying Sam Wilson—who officially takes up the mantle of Captain America following Steve Rogers' departure.

In addition to Mackie, the film boasts an impressive cast, including Danny Ramirez, Harrison Ford, Giancarlo Esposito, and Tim Blake Nelson. Brave New World is one of three MCU films set for release in 2025, alongside Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four.
