Once a Corruptor, This is the Reason Prabowo Speaks Up about Thaksin Shinawatra Being in Danantara

Holiday Ayo - President Prabowo Subianto responded to the many spotlights related to foreign figures, including Thaksin Shinawatra, who helped manage BPI Danantara. Thaksin was highlighted because he was once a corruptor.

Prabowo initially spoke about Thaksin who is a political figure. He said Thaksin was overthrown many times but always won the mandate.

“Like this, Thaksin is a political figure who was overthrown, he won the mandate many times overthrown, that means there is a factor, I don't want to be involved in domestic politics, you understand," said Prabowo during a discussion with the Editors-in-Chief, as on YouTube detikcom, Monday (7/4).

Prabowo then mentioned Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim who was also once in prison on charges of corruption.

He considered that Indonesia should not have helped badmouth Anwar Ibrahim, like Thaksin.

"Anwar Ibrahim has been in prison several times on corruption charges for various accusations, but do we want to sacrifice and join in the badmouthing of Anwar Ibrahim? Do you understand? There are many cases like that. Including myself, I was accused of staging a coup, I was accused of wanting to kill all sorts of things, wanting to kill Pak Harto, wanting to kill Habibie, wanting to kill Gus Dur," he said.

Prabowo admitted that he chose Thaksin only because of his experience and large network. In fact, Thaksin, said Prabowo, did not want to be paid by Indonesia.

“Well, it's like this, he has a large network, he has great experience, he is willing to do it without being paid, Ray Dalio does not want to be paid, Jeffrey Sachs does not want to be paid, at most he said, at most they said 'okay, if I come, the hotel and transportation in Indonesia' and we said we will reimburse your ticket," said Prabowo.

“Many times those figures wanted to help without being paid. It was not difficult, Ray Dalio was very enthusiastic, but he reminded me 'you will be opposed'. He always reminded me. Yes, that's normal, every new initiative will be opposed. That's the nature of organizations everywhere, the majority do not want change, I don't know. That's a phenomenon, human nature. We have been Indonesians for a long time, we are open," he continued.
