Paramilitary Attacks Sudan Market, 40 People Killed

Holiday Ayo - At least 40 civilians were killed and dozens more injured in a military airstrike on a market in southern Khartoum, a local volunteer group said in a statement on Sunday (10/9).

The injured are still being taken to hospital after the attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Quoted from the AFP news agency, since April 2023, the RSF paramilitary has been fighting the regular army or the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in a brutal conflict.

The conflict between the two sides has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced more than 12 million.

After months of stalemate in the capital, this month the army launched an offensive and retook key bases including its headquarters in Khartoum.

It is known that the RSF has been pushed out of many of its strongholds and increasingly to the outskirts of the capital.

Witnesses to Saturday's latest attack targeting civilians in a market said the artillery shelling came from western Omdurman, where the RSF still controls.

The attack on the Sudanese market came a day after RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo vowed to expel soldiers from the capital.

It is not surprising that many residents fled to other areas, even neighboring countries, to save themselves.
