Relaxing at Batujajar Bunker Lake in Bandung

Holiday Ayo - Batujajar Bunker Lake is a unique destination offering beautiful lake views, a must-visit for travelers in Bandung.

Bandung boasts a hidden gem perfect for travelers who enjoy spending the Christmas and New Year holidays relaxing or simply gazing at the sights.

Batujajar Bunker Lake is located in Manglid, Cangkorah, Batujajar District, West Bandung Regency, West Java.

Upon entering the lake, travelers are treated to views of lush green trees and crystal clear lake water with captivating turquoise hues, creating a soothing natural panorama.

It's no wonder Bunker Lake is a favorite spot for nature lovers and photographers looking to capture the beauty of this unique landscape.

Interestingly, the area boasts a bunker building on the lake's edge. This concrete bunker is said to be decades old and still standing strong.

According to several sources, Batujajar Bunker Lake is one of the areas that preserves traces of colonial history, particularly during the Dutch colonial period.

The lake's existence is inextricably linked to the bunkers on its shores, which still stand as silent witnesses to West Bandung's history.

According to historical records, the bunker in the Batujajar area was built in 1942 by the Dutch military.

The bunker's construction was part of the Dutch military strategy to counter the threat of attack by the Japanese army, which was expanding its territory in Southeast Asia at the time.

After the Dutch finally surrendered to Japan and its allies, control of the bunker changed hands. The Japanese army then took over and utilized the bunker for its own military needs.

In general, the bunker in Batujajar was used by the Japanese army as a hiding place, a defense post, and a storage location for weapons and military equipment.

This bunker was also recorded as one of the primary targets of attacks by Indonesian independence fighters in their attempt to reclaim strategic territory from the Japanese army.

At that time, the bunker was considered crucial because of its function as a defense post and storage for Japanese weapons, so its control was believed to weaken Japanese military power in the Bandung area and its surroundings.

The attack on the bunker became part of the struggle of the people and the freedom fighters to defend and win Indonesian independence.

After independence, the bunker's function underwent another change. After Indonesia officially gained independence, the bunker area was transferred to the Indonesian Army (TNI AD), which used it as a military training facility.

Today, the area surrounding the bunker has undergone a transformation.

The area, previously associated with military activity, has slowly transformed into a more open natural landscape.

The Batujajar Bunker Lake serves as a symbol of a past heritage that is now recognized by the public as a destination.

The bunker, standing firmly on the shores of Bunker Lake, was constructed using strong concrete, making it resistant to any attack.

The entire building is characterized by the green color synonymous with military buildings.

Overall, the bunker consists of two floors, each with a strategic function.

Its unique semicircular shape was designed to maximize viewpoints while strengthening defenses.

At the front of the bunker, there is an area believed to have served as a firing post by soldiers.

This position allowed soldiers to monitor the surrounding area, especially water areas and routes considered vulnerable to enemy attack.

Meanwhile, the rear of the bunker is equipped with stairs that serve as a connection between the lower and upper floors.

These stairs facilitate troop mobilization and the distribution of military equipment within the bunker.

In addition to enjoying the serene panorama of Bunker Lake, tourists also have the opportunity to explore the surrounding natural beauty via the available trekking trails surrounding the lake.

These trails allow visitors to explore the lake's shores more closely, while taking in the calm waters, green trees, and fresh air typical of the Batujajar hills.

The pristine natural environment makes this trekking activity ideal for tourists who want to relax and interact directly with nature.

Furthermore, the trekking trails around the lake also offer a diverse visual experience. From several points, visitors can find interesting vantage points to enjoy the lake's landscape from above or from the water's surface.

This activity is often chosen by tourists who enjoy leisurely walks, taking photos, or simply enjoying the serenity of nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

For those seeking a different experience, the Bunker Lake area also offers boat access. By boat, visitors can cross the lake to the Parahyangan area.

Despite offering stunning natural beauty, the journey to Bunker Lake Batujajar requires some effort.

The access road is gravel and flanked by stretches of rice paddies, so visitors are advised to prepare themselves physically and have a vehicle in good condition before visiting, as reported by detikTravel, Thursday (25/12).
