So They Don't Get Moldy and Smell Rancid, Here's How to Store Lebaran Cookies

Holiday Ayo - One of the Lebaran traditions in Indonesia is serving various types of cookies to guests who visit the house during and after Eid al-Fitr.

However, Lebaran cookies are often not finished, even up to several weeks after Eid. If not stored properly, Lebaran cookies can get moldy, soft, or smell rancid.

Here are some tips for storing Lebaran cookies so they last and don't get moldy.

How to Store Lebaran Cookies So They Don't Get Moldy

1. Let Lebaran cookies cool after taking them out of the oven

According to Head Pastry Chef of Beau Bakery, Arief Maulana Ikhsan, let the cookies cool after taking them out of the oven. That way, the newly cooked cookies can dry completely.

2. Store Lebaran cookies in an airtight container

"After they are at room temperature, store the cookies in an airtight container. Make sure the jar used is not wet or damp so that the cookies remain dry," said Arief, some time ago.

3. Store the Eid cake container in a special place

Store the dry cake container in a place that is not too humid. Also, make sure the cake container is protected from direct sunlight.

4. Add silica gel

According to Arief, adding food-grade silica gel to the dry cake container can also help the Eid cake last and not get moldy.

Silica gel functions to absorb moisture in the air in the container, so that the cake lasts without reducing its quality.

5. Separate the dry cakes

The level of humidity greatly affects the durability of the cake. Separate soft-textured cakes such as soft cookies from dry and dense textured cakes.

If the two are mixed, the soft cake will change texture to hard, while the dry cake will become moist.
