The arrangement of the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir area will be completed in December 2023

Holiday Ayo - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Ministry of PUPR RI) through the Directorate General of Human Settlements is implementing the arrangement of the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir area in Wonogiri Regency, Central Java.

With a flood area of more than 8,800 hectares, Gajah Mungkur Reservoir is one of the largest reservoirs in Indonesia. 

 

The PUPR Ministry, through the Directorate General of Human Settlements, is targeting the arrangement of the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir area to be completed in December 2023. 

 

“The Gajah Mungkur Reservoir has the function of controlling floods of 4,000 m3/second, irrigating 30 thousand hectares of rice fields, providing raw water of 600 liters/second and producing 12.4 MW of electric power," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono as quoted by Antaranews.com, Monday (11/9). 

 

Basuki said that the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir has been operating since 1982 and dams the longest river on the island of Java, namely the Bengawan Solo river.

 

The regional arrangement carried out by the PUPR Ministry aims to improve the tourism function of the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir. 

 

Gajah Mungkur Reservoir has extraordinary natural landscape potential and can be developed into a lake view eco-tourism town. 

 

It is hoped that the regional planning carried out by the PUPR Ministry will have a big impact on the people of Wonogiri Regency.

 

Such as economic empowerment, job creation and regional pride. The development scenario for the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir Area is divided into three zones.

 

Zone 1 covering an area of 10 hectares is the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir tourist area, and a recreation center for children and teenagers.

 

Zone 2 covering an area of 75 hectares is an expansion area for the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir tourist area and Lakefront Tourism. 

 

Meanwhile, Zone 3 covering an area of 162 hectares is the Joglo Hill and Watu Cenik Adventure and View development area. 

 

The arrangement of the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir Zone 1 Phase 1 area has been implemented since September 2022 and is targeted for completion in December 2023.

 

Currently physical progress has reached 47 percent, with the total budget allocated coming from the APBN amounting to IDR 22.8 billion. 

 

The scope of work includes preparation, land development, beach terrace and promenade sub-zone work, main road, gate sub-zone, plaza entrance sub-zone, thematic garden sub-zone, mechanical and electrical.
