The contribution of regional banks to the Indonesian economy is minimal
Holiday Ayo - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo highlighted the performance of regional banks whose contribution to the economy is still minimal, even in their own region.
In fact, local governments are one of the contributors needed to help the economy through the policies they implement. Therefore, Perry encouraged regional governments to be more active.
"At the regional level, the role of banking, including banking in the regions, also needs to continue to be improved in order to increase capacity in regional economic and financial services," he said as quoted by cnnindonesia.com, Monday (23/9).
According to Perry, one of the steps that can be taken to improve regional banking performance is through digital transformation.
This digitalization will later be integrated with the central and regional governments, so that all ongoing transactions can be monitored.
"Together with the central and regional governments, we at Bank Indonesia will continue to support accelerating the digitalization of the national and regional financial economy," he said.
Apart from that, Bank Indonesia has also launched the Indonesian Payment System Blueprint which will accelerate the digitization of transactions in the country.
"And in line with the role of BPD as administrator of regional general cash accounts, BPD's involvement in digital innovation also needs to continue to be improved, including risk management and strong consumer protection," concluded Perry.
