The first private ammunition factory in Indonesia was inaugurated

Holiday Ayo - Chairman of the Indonesian MPR and Founder of PT Sapta Inti Perkasa Bambang Soesatyo inaugurated the operations of PT Sapta Inti Perkasa, as the first ammunition factory in Indonesia.
PT Sapta Inti Perkasa, which is located in Karang Ploso, Malang, East Java, is committed to becoming an integrated ammunition production line.
“The presence of this company contributes to building Indonesia's independence and defense strength, through a private defense industry that is independent, solid and highly competitive," he said in a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday.
The factory is under the guidance of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, according to its designation as a Private Defense Industry with Letter Number: SP/14/IV/2020/DJPOT.
As well as granting a production permit with letter number: SIPROD/11/ V/2020/DJPOT. PT Sapta Inti Perkasa is committed to becoming an integrated ammunition production line.
From the beginning of the process of providing raw materials (CoilStrip) CuZn28 and CuZn10, BrassCup, making shells, ammunition assembling process, quality control to the packing process.
Currently it has succeeded in producing brasscups and casings of 5.56 mm caliber and 9 mm caliber. For the 5.56 mm caliber, the target is 100 million ammunition per year, while the 9 mm caliber will then be increased gradually until it reaches 500 million ammunition per year.
According to him, as stated by President Joko Widodo, it is not only Indonesia that needs bullets. The world is currently short of bullets.
Meanwhile, PINDAD has only been able to supply around 400 million ammunition. In fact, as stated by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia and the Elected President of the Republic of Indonesia for 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto, the national ammunition requirement per year reaches 5 billion ammunition to supply the operational needs and reserves of the TNI institution.
“Therefore, through the Job Creation Law, the government provides opportunities for private business actors to strengthen the National Defense Industry. So that ammunition needs can be obtained from domestic industry, and not continue to depend on imports," he explained.
“Ensuring that the entire process from the beginning to the end has been carried out in accordance with the provisions, so that the quality of production is guaranteed and is not in doubt," he emphasized.
Based on BPS data, in mid-2023 alone, Indonesia imported weapons and ammunition and their parts amounting to 202.73 million US dollars or the equivalent of IDR 3.52 trillion.
This figure is expected to continue to increase in 2024 and 2025. If this value can be transferred domestically, it will provide a large economic multiplier effect for the economy and people's welfare.
