Holiday Ayo - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono has opened his voice regarding Indonesian shrimp products facing accusations of anti-dumping violations and Countervailing Duties (CVD) or countervailing import duties in the United States (US). 

As a result of this accusation, all Indonesian shrimp commodity products must pay additional duties of 6.3% when entering the US. 

Trenggono also revealed the effect not only on exports, but also upstream of domestic shrimp production. 

“We will handle it well. Because this has an impact upstream, so if there is a problem in the market, there will definitely be a problem upstream. But we are trying our best to prevent that from happening," he said as quoted by detik.com, Tuesday (3 /9). 

Even so, his party is committed to solving this problem. Currently, the KKP is also carrying out diplomacy so that these allegations can be resolved. 

“Now it's being handled. Hopefully... we'll get 6.3% for dumping, hopefully. We'll keep working on it, we're doing diplomacy. Hopefully in the near future we can do it," he explained. 

Previously, the Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (DJPDSKP) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Budi Sulistiyo, explained that the dumping accusation was submitted by the American Shrimp Processors Association (ASPA) on October 25 2023. 

He said that accusations of anti-dumping of shrimp commodities were aimed at US shrimp entrepreneurs against Indonesia and Ecuador. 

Meanwhile, CVD accusations were aimed at four countries, namely Indonesia, Vietnam, Ecuador and India. 

“On October 25 2023, we, Indonesia, received a petition sent by ASPA, this is an association whose members are frozen warmwater shrimp processors in the United States," said Budi at the Press Conference Update on the Shrimp Dumping Allegation Case in the United States, Jakarta, Monday (2/9). 

“The accusation we received was anti-dumping, namely action taken by the importing country in the form of imposing import duties on dumped goods. Then countervailing duties are additional import duties imposed by the importing country on the exporting country for subsidies provided by the government of the exporting country," he continued.
