TikTok-Tokopedia Closes All Doors to Predatory Pricing for This Sake
Holiday Ayo - The Indonesian Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) stated that the process of migrating the TikTok Shop electronic system to Tokopedia is almost complete according to the deadline next April.
TikTok no longer provides transaction features in its application, but has migrated to Tokopedia.
“We're still in the process (of migrating TikTok Shop to Tokopedia), just be patient," said Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) as reported by detik.com, Friday (29/3).
On the other hand, Zulhas emphasized that the development of digital technology, including e-commerce, must be useful and provide benefits for all parties, and not harm MSMEs.
“Without technology, we will be left behind. However, don't let technology make our industry and MSMEs decline," said Zulhas.
“We certainly want win-win, we develop and friends who develop technology also get big benefits," he continued.
In the midst of the process of completing the electronic system migration, one of the issues that is often of concern at the moment is how TikTok-Tokopedia's commitment to eradicate the potential for the practice of selling products at super cheap prices (predatory pricing) in e-commerce.
Therefore, in relation to predatory pricing, the Minister of Trade has previously stated that Minister of Trade Regulation 31, which was released on 26 September 2023, is aimed at protecting the constitutional rights of MSMEs, increasing protection for domestic consumers, creating a fair and healthy e-commerce ecosystem, supporting the empowerment of MSMEs and actors domestic e-commerce.
Apart from that, the main regulations of this Minister of Trade Regulation include setting a minimum price of US$ 100 per unit for finished goods from overseas which are sold directly by merchants to Indonesia via e-commerce.
This Minister of Trade Regulation also regulates provisions related to the Positive List, or a list of goods from abroad that may enter 'directly' into Indonesia via e-commerce platforms that facilitate cross-border trade.
This predatory pricing issue has been a concern of TikTok-Tokopedia for a long time. TikTok Indonesia Head of Communications Anggini Setiawan has repeatedly emphasized that the company will continue to be committed to providing a platform that is inclusive and fair for all traders.
“We have prepared a proactive detection process, as well as closely monitoring more than 1,600 categories, including fashion, cosmetics, daily necessities and more," said Anggini.
The company, stressed Anggini, will also take firm steps to prevent offering unreasonable prices for this product category.
