The shocking video then circulated on social media this week. One of the victims was Elvia de Jesús, 33, who was on holiday from the state of Guanajuato.

The second victim was reportedly Félix Andrés, a man selling hammocks from a state near the coast. Elvia was walking after her husband after swimming and got out of the water when she was struck by lightning, the Daily Mail reported, citing local authorities.

Her husband had performed CPR on Elvia before paramedics arrived, but fate said otherwise, his wife was declared dead.

Meanwhile, Andrés reportedly breathed his last breath in hospital due to injuries suffered as a result of being struck by lightning.

Playa Maruata, also known as Maruata Beach, is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Michoacan because of its turquoise waters and golden sand.

This area is actually three adjoining beaches located between the mountains and the bay. This tourist destination is famous as a visitor spot for snorkeling and swimming.
