Aunu Senebre, the Typical Dish of Papua

Holiday Ayo - The region of Papua, Indonesia, has many unique and delicious traditional foods.
The most popular traditional dish of Papua is probably papeda, a sago porridge which is a staple food for the local citizens. It has a unique appearance and the way to eat it is also different from others.
Other than papeda, there is another dish that you should try when you are visiting Papua and that is Aunu Senebre.
This dish attracts a lot of attention ever since it is nominated for Indonesia Charm Award (API) II 2017 in the Most Popular Traditional Food category.
Aunu Senebre is a traditional dish that generally can only be found in Papua. The food consists of rice anchovies mixed with grated coconut flesh and taro leaves and stems.

It is actually quite easy to make Aunu Senebre. The taro leaves and stems are boiled with salted water until they look significantly smaller.
Then, the leaves and stems are chopped into little pieces. The coconut flesh is grated and then added to the leaves and stems. Then, add a little salt and the rice anchovies that have been fried beforehand. All the ingredients are then steamed together.
Aunu Senebre is usually eaten as a side dish with papeda.
It is also served with a fish soup or any other tuber dishes made of cassava or sweet potato. Aunu Senebre is best served a bit wet, as it makes it more delicious.
Aunu Senebre has such a unique taste and it is very popular among the people in Papua. The taste is a combination of salty, sweet, and savory.
The dish is also very nutritious. Taro leaves in particular, have anti-inflammatory property.
