West Nusa Tenggara Province consists of two islands, namely Lombok Island and Sumbawa Island. You can see the two islands on the following map. West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is one of the provinces in the southeastern region of Indonesia.
This province has a population of 4,896,162 people, in 2016 (BPS NTB 2016 data), who live spread over two islands, namely Lombok Island and Sumbawa Island. In this province there is a line that divides the two Polynesian Malay language groups, which are referred to as the West Nusantara Subgroup and the Eastern Archipelago, precisely between the areas that speak the Samawa language (Sumbawa) and the Mbojo language (Bima) on the island of Sumbawa.

On the two islands which are administrative areas of the province, various ethnic groups live side by side, namely the Sasak tribe, which mostly inhabits the island of Lombok; the Samawa and Mbojo tribes, who inhabit the western and eastern parts of Sumbawa Island, respectively.
In addition to the three major ethnic groups, there are also other ethnic groups, such as Balinese, Javanese, Bugis, Bajo, Banjarese, and Malays, each of which is characterized by a different language. Therefore, this province is a miniature form of Indonesia.
