Lambak Joget, a Riau Archipelago Traditional Dance

Holiday Ayo - One of the famous traditional dances of the Riau Islands is the Lambak Dance or Dangkung dance. Reporting from the official website of Riau Province, the name Joget Lambak is taken from the sounds that come out of the musical instrument that accompanies the dance.
The Joget Lambak dance combines elements of dance and music that have been known since the 17th century. Usually, this dance is held at night. Staged in community events such as weddings, celebrations for major holidays, or in performing arts performances.
Joget Lambak dance is a form of expression of joy by combining three elements, namely agile movements, fast music, and poetry that means joy. Joget Lambak dance is mostly performed by female dancers. However, it is possible for male dancers to join in this dance.

The dance pattern of Joget Lambak always begins with opening music, then continues with the first song, which is called the land opener. Followed by rhythm and dance bertabik (respect-respect).

The musical instruments that accompany the Joget Lambak dance are tambourines, kompang, chrysanthemums, violins, stringed instruments, and other supporting tools. For songs sung like Dondang Sayang, Anak Kala, Tanjung Katung and others.
