Red Island Beach is a beach that stretches to 3 km. The beach faces the south part of Java Island, straight to the Indian Ocean. It has white, almost pink or red sand.

The name Red Island Beach comes from the hill near the beach area, which has red-colored soil. When the tide is low, you can visit this hill. But when the tide is high, the hill and the beach are separated from each other. On the hill is a temple that is used by the Hindu people that live nearby. It is called Tawang Alun Temple and is said to be built in the 1980s.

The entrance ticket to Red Island Beach is priced around IDR 8000 per person. The parking fee is IDR 2000 for motorcycles and IDR 5000 for cars. This beach has a quite large parking area. If you want to stay the night, there are homestays near the beach, with the price starting from IDR 100,000 per night.

Administratively, Red Island Beach is part of Pesanggaran District, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java Province, Indonesia. If you go there from Banyuwangi City Center, then the distance will be around 60 km. You just have to drive toward Srono, then continue to Kesilir. From there, you can continue to the beach.

Although the road to Red Island Beach is winding, overall it is in a good condition. If you go with public transportation, then you can take a bus from Banyuwangi Terminal to Pesanggaran. From there, you can take a taxi to the beach.

There are some activities you can do at Red Island Beach, like snorkeling. At its shallow snorkeling spots, you can see so many kinds of colorful fish and corals of different shapes and sizes. The beach is also one of the popular surfing spots in that area. It is fairly safe for beginner surfers because the waves are not too high, only around 2 to 4 meters. If you want to surf or snorkel, there is a place to rent surfing boards and snorkeling gear.

You can also explore the hill near Red Island Beach when the tide is low. The best time to go to the hill is at 3 in the afternoon. From the hill, you can see the view of the beach and its surrounding area better. You can also visit Tawang Alun Temple while you are at it.
