Tepo Tahu, a Typical Magetan Dish that is Similar to Lontong

Tepo is a food similar to lontong, but the texture is softer and the shape is not elongated, but rather like a pyramid, but both made of rice and wrapped in banana leaves, then steamed. Tepo Tahu has a taste that is quite unique and can be addictive for the audience.

Tepo tahu consists of tepo, egg tofu, fried tempeh, sliced cabbage, and bean sprouts, then drizzled with peanut sauce, soy sauce, sprinkling of celery, fried onions, fried peanuts, and crumbled crackers.

At first glance, this dish is similar to tofu kupat or tofu dreadlocks, but its characteristic is a sauce with a mix of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors. Unlike lontong, the tepo feels so smooth when it enters the mouth, combined with the savory egg tofu makes this dish so rich in taste.

The easiest way to find Tepo Tahu in the morning. This culinary can be found in the alley of the Vegetable Market on Mayjend Sungkono Sukowinangun Street, Panekan, in front of the Jenderal Sudirman Tambran hospital Street, and on Pahlawan Street, Magetan.

The sellers of tepo Tahu peddle by sitting on a small bench while slightly kneeling on the ground. Most of the equipment used to sell Tepo Tahu is still traditional. This is a characteristic in itself.
