Holiday Ayo - Russian authorities announced that there were no survivors in the crash of a military cargo plane west of the Russian capital, Moscow, on Tuesday (December 9).

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, which reportedly had seven crew members on board.

The Investigative Committee, which is responsible for investigating major crimes in Russia, said Wednesday (December 10) that it has opened an investigation into flight preparation rules.

The fatal crash involved an AN-22 military aircraft, with the Investigative Committee stating that the aircraft crashed near the village of Ivankovo during a test flight.

"On December 9, 2025, during a test flight, an AN-22 aircraft crashed near the village of Ivankovo in the Ivanovo region," the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

"All crew members on board the aircraft were killed," the Investigative Committee reported.

However, the Investigative Committee did not specify how many crew members were on board the crashed military aircraft.

Although the state-run TASS news agency previously reported the plane had a crew of seven on board.

The Russian Defense Ministry previously said the flight took place after the plane underwent repair work.

"Today in the Ivanovo region, during a test flight after repairs, an AN-22 military transport aircraft crashed," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement, as quoted by Moscow state media.

"The aircraft crashed in an uninhabited area," the statement added.

The Ivanovo region is located about 200 kilometers east of the capital, Moscow.

While the cause of the military aircraft crash is still under investigation, there is no indication that the incident is related to Russia's attack on Ukraine or Kyiv's alleged involvement.

Accidents involving military transport and equipment have become more frequent in Russia during the nearly four-year invasion of Ukraine.
