History of UNO Cards, a Global Game

Holiday Ayo - UNO game is an interesting game to play with friends and family. UNO is a card game originating from the United States (US), which is played with a specially printed deck.

The general principle of this game, adopted a card game called "crazy eights". Since 1992, UNO has been a Mattel brand. UNO has two types of games namely UNO Cards and UNO Stacko. This is related to the story.

The UNO card has an interesting history to discuss. The UNO game was created by Merle Robbins in 1971. Initially, Merle Robbins, who invented UNO in 1971, was a barber or barber in Ohio, USA.

He has a hobby of playing cards with his family. At that time, Merle and his son had a heated argument over the rules of Crazy Eights. To solve this problem, Merle created his own game called UNO.

UNO comes from Italian which means "One". This name for him is an appropriate title because the main goal of playing UNO is to become a player who throws away all of his cards. When there is only one card in hand, players must shout 'UNO' before anyone realizes that the player only has one card left.

As time goes by, UNO is increasingly recognized by the wider community. The first UNO cards were made on Merle's dining room table by hand and just for the family.

After that, he often played UNO with his family. The whole family is getting interested and addicted to the game.

Then, after creating a version of the UNO game suitable only for his family to enjoy, Merle saw the potential for this game to be big and worthy of recognition. With the help of his family, Merle saved money to professionally design and produce his cards.

Quoting gamesver.com, Merle is a card game lover. He raised up to $8000 to build 5000 UNO sets.

Merle and his wife are very enthusiastic and interested in what they have to sell. They even sold their house as an investment and received money from their son, Rey.

The UNO cards were then sold at the Ohio Barbershop and on the streets. His son sells various game packages to students.

As it gets longer, UNO is getting more and more popular. Merle and Marie travel to other countries to sell UNOs to anyone interested. They demonstrated the rules of playing UNO for anyone who wants to buy it. They also managed to sell quite a lot of UNO Cards.

Marle's capital to travel to other countries is the profit from selling their house to buy cars and trailers. Both wanted to look professional, so they changed the look of their car and trailer with the “UNO-Best Game in America” sign. After being able to sell up to the first 5,000 copies in Ohio, Texas, and Florida. They also made orders for up to 10,000 copies. The marketing strategy used is quite different. Instead of selling games on the streets, they visit retail shops to store and sell their products.

Merle and his wife visited a small retail outlet in Ohio. Over time, the outlet got bigger and started expanding to other big outlets.

During its development, Merle and Marie received offers from UNO appreciators named Bob Tezak and his partners Bill Apple and Ed Ackerman.

They offered to buy UNO from Merle and wanted to market the game worldwide. This also raised UNO's popularity from what Merle and his family had imagined.

This offer is certainly very tempting and attractive to them. Then, in 1972, Robbins sold UNO rights to partners led by Bob Tezak. They also formed International Games, Inc.

The company offered Merle a royalty of 10 cents for each copy sold. Additionally, there is a $50,000 fee for the actual rights to the game up front. After that, International Games, Inc. Bob also runs it in his own house.

He managed to sell all of Merle's stock and decided to renew the brand and attach clear instructions and a more aesthetic package. Now, UNO has become more professional and attracts people's attention.

As a result, in the 1980s UNO sales soared and became an extraordinary phenomenon for card lovers.

Many toy industries that glanced at the success of UNO and Tezak also received purchase offers from various global toy manufacturers. However, Bob humbly turned down the offers in 1980 and 1991.

Then in 1992, Tezak accepted offers from Mattel, Inc. To buy International Games, Inc. including UNO. Until now, UNO has been increasingly successful and has been dubbed the number one selling card game in the world in 2018.
