Tapas, the Culture of Eating a Variety of Spanish Snacks

Holiday Ayo - Many dishes are synonymous with Spain, one of which is tapas. This is not the name of the dish, but rather a culture of eating a variety of Spanish snacks.
In general, people know tapas as various types of typical Spanish food served in small portions. Paella (similar to Risotto in Italy), cheese, and calamari are some examples of foods that can be served in the form of tapas.
Spaniards usually eat this culinary as a snack to accompany them to drink and hangout at the bar. But we can also eat a series of tapas dishes as our 'big meal' menu because even if it's a little if we order 5-7 kinds of tapas we will eventually be full too. Tapas are usually also suitable to be eaten together with red wine or red wine.
Tapas comes from the Spanish word 'tapa' which can mean 'cover'. In this case the food that is used as tapas is usually served in a small plate that is placed on a glass (to cover the glass). The practical reason is to prevent insects or other small animals such as flies from entering/hitting the glass.
According to legend in Spain, we can trace the origin of this culinary back to the 13th to 15th centuries, where there was a Spanish king named Alfonso who used tapas as a small snack when he was sick.
After that King Alfonso issued an order that the bars in Spain provide these snacks when customers order drinks. This modern form of tapas is believed to be heavily influenced by the Andalusian region, especially Seville. Currently tapas has become a lifestyle of people throughout Spain and is known throughout the world.
With a small size but rich in taste, tapas dishes usually taste sour, fresh and savory. To try tapas dishes that have a unique and interesting taste is indeed not an easy thing because not many restaurants serve Spanish cuisine.
