Thai Habits That Make Tourists Wonder

Holiday Ayo - Often, we feel alien to the cultural characteristics of other countries. Like in Thailand. Even though it is still an Asian continent, Thailand has very different living habits from other countries, including Indonesia.

Although sometimes in other countries these habits are considered normal, but in the land of white elephants, some habits can be considered as bad actions. What kind of habit is that?

1. Have a Special Greeting

In general, shaking hands is a common thing to do when welcoming someone. However, in Thailand itself, this is not something that is commonly done by most Thai people. When they greet or meet someone, what they do is do a typical greeting known as 'Wai'.

The way to do this is to fold both hands in front of the body and point them at the person while bowing their head as a form of respect.

2. Don't Touch the Head

The head is a part of the body that is considered sacred and clean by most Thai people. Touching the head of another person is not polite, it can even be considered a rude act even though it is done as a joke.

In general, Thai people themselves don't really like it when someone touches their head, or their children without permission. Even if you have a close relationship with that person, you shouldn't do it. Remembering these actions could have offended him.

3. Putting Your Feet on Something

Another habit that is also considered bad and should not be practiced in Thailand is placing one's foot on top of the other or placing one's foot on something such as a chair, table or object that makes the sole of the foot visible to others. It is considered an act of disrespect, disrespect, it can even be considered a form of humiliation.

In other areas the pose may be commonplace and mean nothing. However, when you are in Thailand. It is best to follow every rule and custom of the local people as a way to show respect for their traditions and culture.
