Indonesia Declares September 27 as National Comedy Day

The Ministry of Culture has officially designated September 27 as National Comedy Day, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Indonesian comedy legend Bing Slamet.
The decision was formalized through a Ministerial Decree, handed directly to the Indonesian Comedians Association (PaSKI) during the 5th Indonesian Comedy Awards (ANUKOM) in Jakarta.
Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized that Bing Slamet remains a major source of inspiration for Indonesia’s comedy scene. Beyond his role in the Kuartet Jaya group, Bing Slamet was also active as a singer and musician with Eka Sapta, and his name is enshrined in national film history through a long list of acclaimed works.
Fadli expressed hope that this commemoration would serve as a momentum to honor the vital role of comedy in Indonesian society.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, I hereby present this designation to Mas Jarwo Kwat, Bang Komeng, and all fellow comedians. Hopefully, on September 27 we can celebrate the first-ever National Comedy Day together,” he concluded.
