Kluivert Heads Back to the Netherlands After Indonesia Fails to Qualify for the 2026 World Cup

Indonesia’s national football coach, Patrick Kluivert, has reportedly returned to the Netherlands immediately after the Garuda squad failed to advance to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The decision came right after Indonesia’s 0–1 defeat to Iraq in their final qualifying match.
The team’s manager, Sumardji, confirmed that Kluivert did not accompany the team back to Indonesia following the game.
“No, he didn’t. Everyone returned to the Netherlands,” Sumardji said on Monday (October 13, 2025).
With the loss, Indonesia concluded their fourth-round qualifying campaign as the bottom team in Group B. The result marks a bitter disappointment for fans who had placed high hopes on Kluivert to lead the nation to its first-ever World Cup appearance.
Earlier, Indonesia had also fallen to Saudi Arabia with a 2–3 scoreline, sealing their elimination after two consecutive defeats.
The failure has sparked widespread frustration among supporters. The hashtag #KluivertOut began trending across social media platforms, reflecting growing calls for the Dutch coach to step down from his position as head coach of the Indonesian national team.
