Holiday Ayo - PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) member Vivin Cahyani Sungkono strongly denied rumors that Shin Tae Yong would return as coach of the Indonesian national team.

Vivin emphasized that the circulating rumors that the South Korean coach would fill the coaching seat vacated by Patrick Kluivert were baseless and invalid.

"We want to clarify that the news regarding the return of coach Shin Tae Yong is baseless and invalid," Vivin said, as reported by the Antara news agency.

"There is no discussion regarding STY on the PSSI's current agenda," Vivin said in an official statement distributed to Indonesian football journalists.

Vivin emphasized that PSSI is very grateful for the performance of STY and Kluivert. However, Vivin reminded that it is time for all elements of national football to focus on the future.

Regarding the vacant Indonesian national team coaching position, Vivin admitted that PSSI is currently searching for the right person. PSSI is working hard to find the right person.

"The PSSI is working hard to find a senior coach who will lead the national team long-term, in line with the new vision and roadmap for Indonesian football," he said.

Therefore, Vivin asked the public and national team fans to be patient. Given the time available, PSSI will make an important decision regarding the selection of a senior coach.

"We ask everyone to be patient, because the process of selecting the senior men's coach is being carried out very carefully. We want the best person for this position," Vivin said.

"We also want to remind you that achievement is an investment. This is not just a matter of cost, but also requires time and the right strategy," she explained.

Previously, on October 16, 2025, or four days after the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, PSSI parted ways with Kluivert. PSSI and Kluivert reportedly agreed to terminate the contract.
