In addition, to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, the company is also investing in the use of a biomass boiler that processes rice husks to produce steam to replace LNG at the Nestlé Karawang Plant, West Java.

President Director of PT Nestlé Indonesia Ganesan Ampalavanar said, through this investment, Milo will now be 100% produced in Indonesia. This is also the company's contribution in supporting the "proud made Indonesia" movement from the Government.

This investment through VBD 2 is expected to increase Milo's production capacity to double the annual production. In the future, the increase in production capacity is expected to encourage Nestlé Indonesia to become an export market for other countries, as well as provide a long-term positive impact on the Indonesian economy.

Located in West Java, one of the largest rice-producing provinces in Indonesia, the biomass boiler at the Nestlé Karawang Factory can utilize 8,880 tonnes of rice husk per year obtained from local rice farmers to prevent the rice husk from becoming agricultural waste.

Through the use of this biomass boiler, Nestlé Indonesia can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 6,068 tons of CO2e per year. This can help save energy costs by 14%.

Not only that, the rest of the biomass boiler combustion will be used as organic fertilizer and will be given back to local rice farmers.
