Getting to Know the Shortest Road in the World Located in Scotland
Holiday Ayo - If you're visiting Scotland and are on a whim looking for something unique, just head to the world's shortest street. On this street you will only find one building that has the number 1 in its address.
The shortest street is called Ebenezer Place which is located in Wick, Scotland. This road only has a length of three adult feet, or about 2.05 meters, in 2006 was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the shortest road in the world.
The shortest street is occupied by the only building there named Mackays Hotel which was built in 1883 by Alexander Sinclair. During the construction of the hotel, the local government asked to include the name of the short road at the end.
Mackays Hotel is a building located at Ebenezer Place Street, Number 1 Bistro. This sizable hotel occupies three addresses at once.
From 1887, the name Ebenezer Place began to appear in local city records. However, this street merges with Union street and River Street so it seems like a long road, even though they are three different streets.
While measuring the road, Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief, Craig Glenday, battled the storms and strong winds that hit Scotland at the time.
After an hour of measuring the road, Craig Glenday immediately established it as the shortest road in the world.
Want to know who created this shortest path? The originator is the founder of the hotel Alexander Sinclair. The hotel building was built lengthwise with an unusual location of the front door, as a result Alexander Sinclair was asked by the authorities in 1883 to write the address at the end of his building.
Sinclair finally decided to name the street as Ebenezer Place and four years later the name was officially used as a street name.
Until now the road is still the shortest road in the world and no one has rivaled it. The award for the shortest road in the world has only been given in recent years.
The door from the Hotel Mackays even faces directly onto Ebenezer Place, and the other door overlooks Union Street.
This hotel is also one of the favorite places for tourists, because apart from staying at the hotel, they can also experience the uniqueness of living on the shortest road in the world.
