Rows of Passport Colors in the World and Their User Countries

Holiday Ayo - A passport is a mandatory document when someone wants to travel abroad. Apparently the color of passport covers is different in various countries, there are red, blue, green and black passports.

These four passport colors are used in different countries and have different meanings, you know.

Here are the 4 passport colors and their meanings

1. Red Passport

Often, passport color indicates the economic unity of a country. Burgundy passports are used by European Union members (except Croatia), and countries interested in joining (think: Turkey) have changed their passport colors to match.

The Andean communities (also known for their past EU ambitions) in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru also have burgundy passports.

The Swiss passport, in its easy and well-known Swiss style, matches the country's flag, with a red cover marked with a cross.

2. Blue Passport

The Caricom economic union, the Caribbean Community and the Common Market, states usually have blue passports.

The Southern Common Market, known as Mercosur, consists of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay all also having blue passports.

Blue was also a color used throughout the “new world” (such as in North America), as Boghossian told Business Insider.

However, the United States passport only changed color to navy blue in 1976 — to match the colors of the American Flag.

3. Green Passport

Most Islamic countries use green passports because of the importance of the color in their religion. Variations of green are also used by members of ECOWAS – the Economic Community of West African States including Nigeria and Ghana.

The color also has a fun place in US history. For one year in 1993, the US issued green passports in honor of the 200th anniversary of the US Consular Service for the first time since the color changed to blue in 1976 for the bicentennial.

4. Black Passport

Black passports, although less common than red or blue, provide the best results. Examples include Angola, Malawi, and New Zealand in New Zealand, black is also considered one of the country's national colors.
