School Mosque Explosion During Friday Prayer Injures Eight Students at SMAN 72 Jakarta!
An explosion rocked the mosque area of SMAN 72 Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Friday afternoon (November 7, 2025), during the Friday prayer session. At least eight students were injured, with two of them requiring hospital treatment.
Police spokesperson for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, confirmed the incident and stated that the Bomb Squad (Gegana) and Explosive Disposal Unit (Jihandak) had been deployed to investigate the source of the explosion.
“The Regional Police Chief is on the way to the location. The bomb squad team is still conducting a detailed sweep according to standard procedures,” he said.
As of now, the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation. The Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat DKI) suspects that the blast may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit in the mosque’s sound system. However, authorities also discovered several suspicious items at the scene, including wires, a remote control, and an airsoft gun, all of which are currently being examined by the police.
Following the incident, the school compound—located within the TNI AL Kodamar Complex—was immediately sealed off, and all teaching activities were suspended temporarily. The injured students have been treated at Kelapa Gading Community Health Center (Puskesmas) and nearby hospitals.
