What is butter tea? It's actually just black tea, but they add butter to it instead of sugar. To enhance the taste, they also add salt. For some people, this tea might look disgusting. Just imagining it might make you not want to drink it. Yes, this is only for people who dare to try unusual flavors. But, as most people say, behind every cultural habit, there is always a reason. Historically, Tibetans used to add butter as a simple source of extra calories.

In most tea houses you won't see any tourists, because they don't have English menus, but you will see whole tables with flasks. Tea houses in Tibet usually serve it in bottles. Even if you are dating alone. This is due to the habit of Tibetans who like to spend time in tea houses to chat, gossip, or unwind after work. And because they spent quite a long time there, this place always served tea in bottles.
